Role summary

Vertex Pharmaceuticals seeks a director-level scientific leader to oversee development and deployment of agentic AI capabilities that augment research across the organization.   • Ability to define rigorous evaluations, benchmarks, and validation strategies for AI systems
  • Senior scientific and technical leadership experience with cross-functional team management
  • Strong strategic judgment and executive communication with senior stakeholders
  • Commitment to scientific rigor, responsible AI, reproducibility, and data governance

What you'll be doing

  • Lead cross-functional teams to translate scientific needs into sequenced roadmap for agentic AI capabilities
  • Drive scientific and technical leadership for internal development of co-scientist system skills and orchestration patterns
  • Define evidence-based frameworks and governance to evaluate commercial, partnership, and internally developed agentic AI options
  • Establish validation standards and acceptance criteria for correctness, reliability, and measurable scientific impact
  • Represent the initiative to executive stakeholders, communicating strategy, progress, risks, and resource needs
