Role summary
Merck seeks a Principal Scientist in Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics for its West Point R&D facility. The role involves supporting multi-disciplinary drug development efforts across small molecules and biologics, evaluating DMPK properties, drug interactions, and regulatory strategy to advance clinical programs.
What they're looking for
- PhD in pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology, chemistry, or related life sciences field; or Master's degree
- 12+ years relevant industry experience (Master's) or 8+ years (PhD) in discovery and development of therapeutics
- Demonstrated ability to support early to late-stage clinical development as DMPK representative
- Experience authoring regulatory documents (IB, IND, WMA filings) and managing DDI strategy
- DMPK lead experience advancing small molecules, peptides, biologics, and conjugates toward clinical development
- Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills with consistent deadline delivery
What you'll be doing
- Guide design and interpretation of in silico, in vitro, and in vivo analyses supporting therapeutic development
- Assess program risks including drug interactions, metabolism, and clinical translation for development teams
- Author regulatory source reports and supporting documents for regulatory filings
- Independently evaluate and predict program risks while implementing mitigation strategies
- Collaborate across functional teams to integrate DMPK data into ongoing drug development programs
