Role summary

Merck seeks an Executive Director to lead transformation enablement and AI adoption across Global Clinical Development. The role drives organizational change, establishes an AI Community of Practice, manages the GCTO AI/Automation Hub, and ensures measurable business value realization from digital and automation initiatives.

  • Bachelor's degree in scientific, healthcare, business, technology, or related field with 15+ years pharmaceutical/biotech/life sciences industry experience and 10+ years leadership
  • Or advanced degree (Master's/Doctorate) with 10+ years industry experience and 8+ years leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-scale business transformation initiatives
  • Hands-on experience creating AI-enabled solutions with technical fluency in agentic builds and emerging AI capabilities
  • Strong understanding of clinical development processes and regulated research environments
  • Expertise in organizational change management, adoption strategy, and value realization methodologies
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills across technical and business audiences

What you'll be doing

  • Establish and sustain GCD AI Community of Practice to drive knowledge sharing, capability building, and organizational learning
  • Lead GCTO AI/Automation Hub to identify, prioritize, build, and scale AI-enabled solutions aligned to operational priorities
  • Develop governance, intake, and prioritization models for AI and automation opportunities with clear business ownership and compliance review
  • Create and monitor transformation adoption metrics, proficiency growth, business value realization, and change effectiveness
  • Sponsor business adoption strategies and workforce readiness programs supporting sustainable behavioral change and responsible AI practices
