Role summary

Neurocrine Biosciences seeks a Senior Principal Scientist to lead peptide chemistry and API development strategy across the company's pipeline. This role requires deep expertise in peptide synthesis and process chemistry combined with CMC leadership to establish scalable manufacturing approaches from early development through commercialization.

What they're looking for

  • BS in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or chemical engineering plus 10+ years relevant experience, or MS plus 8+ years, or PhD plus 6+ years
  • Substantial hands-on and technical leadership experience in peptide synthesis, process development, scale-up, or GMP manufacturing
  • Deep expertise in solid-phase and liquid-phase peptide synthesis with experience in fragment condensation or complex modified peptides
  • Strong knowledge of peptide impurities, degradation pathways, cleavage, purification, and isolation techniques
  • Industry experience in peptide API process development and manufacturing strongly preferred
  • Experience with technical risk assessment, process characterization, and manufacturing scale-up activities
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage external partnerships with CDMOs and contractors

What you'll be doing

  • Apply advanced peptide and organic chemistry expertise to resolve complex API development challenges across multiple programs
  • Define scientific strategy, governance frameworks, and technical standards for peptide API development across the portfolio
  • Lead development and optimization of peptide manufacturing processes from laboratory scale through commercial production
  • Guide technical risk assessments, process characterization, robustness studies, and investigations for peptide manufacturing
  • Develop CMC regulatory documentation including process descriptions, control strategies, and health-authority responses
