What “remote” actually means in life sciences
Remote work is unevenly distributed across life sciences, and it helps to know why before filtering on it. Deliverable-based functions — biostatistics, statistical programming, data management, pharmacovigilance case processing, regulatory operations — are genuinely location-independent and are where most fully-remote postings come from. Field roles such as Medical Science Liaisons, clinical monitors and territory sales managers are listed as remote because there is no office, not because there is no travel; these commonly carry 50-80% travel within a territory. Bench science, QC and manufacturing are tied to a physical site and rarely appear here at all. Listings are included when the employer states remote or home-based status, or when the posted location says so.
