Role summary

Gilead Sciences seeks an Executive Director to lead viral vector process development from construct design through commercial manufacturing. The role combines technical expertise in lentiviral vector platforms with cross-functional leadership across research, product development, and manufacturing, supporting both ex vivo and emerging in vivo cell therapy applications.

What they're looking for

  • PhD in Biochemical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Virology, or related discipline with 15+ years experience
  • Extensive viral vector development and manufacturing experience in cell or gene therapy
  • Deep expertise in lentiviral vector and/or retroviral vector systems
  • End-to-end program experience from early development through commercial scale
  • Strong knowledge of analytical characterization and manufacturing tech transfer
  • Proven leadership of large, matrixed organizations in cell therapy environments
  • Working knowledge of cGMP regulations and viral vector-related compliance

What you'll be doing

  • Establish technical strategy for viral vector platforms across clinical and commercial manufacturing scales
  • Lead upstream and downstream process development, scale-up, and technology transfer activities
  • Drive viral vector productivity improvements and next-generation capability advancement
  • Partner cross-functionally with research, product teams, and analytics to optimize vector design and manufacturing
  • Build and lead high-performing viral vector development organization with recruitment and talent development
