Role summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific seeks an Embedded Controls Engineer to design and develop embedded microprocessor-based control systems for ultra-low temperature freezers and cold storage equipment. The role combines hardware design, firmware development, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver compliant, energy-efficient solutions throughout the product lifecycle.

What they're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's degree preferred
  • 0-2 years hands-on experience developing embedded control systems for electromechanical products
  • Electronic controls expertise including analog/digital circuit design, prototyping, and commercialization
  • Firmware and software development experience in C/C++, Python, and JavaScript
  • PCBA design experience using PADS layout tool and embedded microcontroller platforms
  • Familiarity with high-speed circuit design (USB, Ethernet, LVDS) and IEC 60601 safety standards
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills

What you'll be doing

  • Design and develop embedded control circuit boards and associated circuits for cold storage platforms
  • Develop firmware and HMI designs using embedded C/C++ and Qt framework for ULT freezers
  • Create schematics, bills of materials, design documentation, and qualification test methods
  • Collaborate with refrigeration, mechanical, product, quality, and regulatory teams through product development phases
  • Ensure electrical systems meet regulatory and certification requirements including UL, IEC, and FDA compliance
