Role summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific seeks a Staff AI/ML Engineer to lead the design, development, and production deployment of advanced AI and machine learning solutions across life sciences applications. This hands-on technical leadership role involves architecting ML models, LLM applications, RAG systems, and agentic workflows while mentoring engineers and establishing engineering standards.

Master's degree in AI/ML, computer science, statistics, engineering, or related field; Ph.D. preferred
10+ years industry experience developing and shipping AI/ML solutions into production systems
5+ years working in agile/scrum environments
Strong proficiency in Python, PyTorch, C++, C#, and related programming languages
Hands-on experience with RAG systems, embeddings, vector search, and agentic AI workflows
Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, and LLM APIs (Azure OpenAI, Anthropic Claude)
Strong data engineering skills including ETL pipelines and large-scale data processing tools

What you'll be doing

Lead full AI/ML lifecycle from ideation through research, data engineering, model development, evaluation, and production deployment
Design and deploy LLM-powered services and agentic AI workflows integrated into enterprise and scientific applications
Define reference architectures, software design standards, and best practices for AI and Generative AI solutions
Establish and champion evaluation-driven development practices with rigorous assessment frameworks
Mentor engineers and participate in Communities of Practice to influence AI/ML adoption strategies
