Role summary

Merck's Research & Development Division seeks a Senior Scientist in bioanalytical chemistry to develop and validate mass spectrometry-based biomarkers for neuroscience drug discovery. The role focuses on translational biomarker identification for neurodegenerative diseases using omics approaches within multidisciplinary teams.

What they're looking for

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent with minimum four years postdoctoral or industry experience
  • Hands-on expertise in unbiased omics (metabolomics, lipidomics, or proteomics) with LC-MS instrumentation
  • Proven development and qualification of LC-MS/MS-based quantitative assays
  • Proficiency with bioinformatic tools such as MetaboAnalyst, Skyline, MaxQuant, or Proteome Discoverer
  • Experience applying mass spectrometry to preclinical models and human biospecimens for biomarker discovery
  • Strong collaborative skills and demonstrated ability to produce robust, reproducible data
  • Neuroscience degree preferred; drug discovery experience in pharma or biotech preferred

What you'll be doing

  • Develop and apply mass spectrometry assays for preclinical drug development and biomarker discovery
  • Plan and execute unbiased and quantitative discovery analyses using high-resolution LC-MS instrumentation
  • Collaborate with translational medicine and biology teams to identify and validate fluid biomarkers for patient stratification
  • Coordinate assay transfer to internal groups and external contract research organizations
  • Train colleagues and serve as technical expert for mass spectrometry applications and new bioanalytical technologies
