Role summary
AbbVie seeks a Senior Architect for COTS Applications to lead architectural strategy and oversight of the commercial off-the-shelf application portfolio. The role combines hands-on technical expertise with enterprise-level leadership, managing a team of architects while defining roadmaps, standards, and modernization initiatives across a large, complex application landscape.
What they're looking for
- Bachelor's degree with 9 years relevant experience, or Master's degree with 8 years, or PhD with 4 years in COTS/integration/enterprise architecture
- Proven experience leading or managing architect teams with coaching, performance management, and portfolio capacity planning
- Deep expertise in modern COTS and integration architecture including configuration-first, API/event-driven integration, iPaaS, identity, and security-by-design
- Track record guiding organizations through complex COTS implementations, upgrades, consolidations, or modernization programs
- Strong enterprise influence skills and comfort in governance forums, architectural review boards, and vendor negotiations
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex architectural concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience in regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals preferred
What you'll be doing
- Lead and develop architect team providing oversight of COTS applications, integrations, and technology roadmap; manage performance, growth, and staffing
- Define and advance COTS application and integration strategies aligned to long-term business and technology goals
- Provide architectural leadership across major programs from vendor selection through implementation, configuration, and lifecycle management
- Establish reference architectures, design patterns, and decision frameworks for COTS architecture and integration standards
- Mentor architects and senior technologists to raise architectural maturity and modern application practices across the organization
