Role summary

Merck's Pharmaceutical Commercialization Technology department seeks a scientist or engineer to support small molecule drug product process development and manufacturing scale-up. The role involves leading development activities from Phase IIb through commercial launch, collaborating across functional teams, and applying quality-by-design principles to solve technical challenges.

  • Bachelor's degree plus two years related experience, or Master's degree plus one year experience
  • Chemical, biochemical, or materials engineering; pharmaceutical sciences; or related discipline
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with technical writing experience
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively while meeting commitments
  • Demonstrated interest in solving technical problems and executing experiments
  • Hands-on laboratory, pilot plant, or manufacturing facility experience preferred
  • Familiarity with cGMP, process scale-up, technology transfer, or process modeling preferred

What you'll be doing

  • Plan, conduct, and interpret pharmaceutical process development studies including scale-up and process validation
  • Participate in drug product working groups and cross-functional technology development teams
  • Apply Quality by Design principles, design of experiments, and risk-based problem-solving approaches
  • Author technical documents including experimental protocols, reports, and regulatory submissions
  • Evaluate new technologies and equipment, perform testing and data analysis in compliance with GMP
