Role summary
Amgen seeks a Scientific Associate Director to lead safety pharmacology laboratory operations and serve as a subject matter expert for nonclinical safety evaluation. The role combines lab management, project team collaboration, and external scientific engagement to support drug candidate development across multiple therapeutic modalities.
What they're looking for
- Doctorate degree with 4+ years relevant scientific experience, or Master's with 7+ years, or Bachelor's with 9+ years
- PhD in Pharmacology, Neuroscience, Physiology, Biomedical Sciences, or related field preferred
- Broad experience in in vitro and/or in vivo safety pharmacology across cardiovascular, respiratory, and CNS domains
- Working knowledge of cardiac ion channel assays and hiPSC-derived cardiomyocyte and isolated heart assays
- Demonstrated people leadership and laboratory management experience
- Experience managing outsourced studies, CRO relationships, and GLP-compliant safety pharmacology packages
- Strong cross-functional communication, problem-solving skills, and track record of scientific publications
What you'll be doing
- Oversee cardiac safety and electrophysiology laboratory operations including ion channel, hiPSC-derived cardiomyocyte, and isolated heart assays
- Supervise scientific staff, promote their development, and ensure high-quality timely data generation and reporting
- Serve as Safety Pharmacology Subject Matter Expert on translational safety teams supporting discovery and development programs
- Guide study design, data interpretation, and safety risk evaluation for small molecules, biologics, and emerging therapeutic modalities
- Build external collaborations and develop scientific eminence through publications, presentations, and promotion of human-relevant in vitro safety models
