Role summary

Fusion Pharmaceuticals (AstraZeneca) seeks a scientist to develop and execute histology and immunohistochemistry assays supporting early-stage radioconjugate drug discovery. The role involves independent optimization of tissue-based workflows, imaging analysis, and radiolabeled sample handling in a Hamilton, Ontario facility.

What they're looking for

  • BSc or MSc in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Histology, Pathology, or equivalent with hands-on laboratory experience
  • Extensive practical experience with paraffin embedding, microtomy, IHC, and immunofluorescence
  • Proven experience operating automated staining platforms for IHC and IF assays
  • Strong tissue imaging and quantitative image analysis skills; HALO platform experience preferred
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting, data interpretation, and scientific communication abilities
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams
  • Willingness to become trained in autoradiography and radiolabeled tissue handling workflows

What you'll be doing

  • Develop, optimize, and validate end-to-end histology workflows including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining
  • Independently operate and troubleshoot automated IHC and IF platforms with routine maintenance
  • Perform quantitative image analysis using digital pathology software and correlate biomarker data with radiopharmaceutical distribution
  • Handle radiolabeled tissue samples following radiation safety procedures and perform tissue-based radiopharmaceutical imaging
  • Maintain detailed experimental documentation, communicate results across teams, and ensure compliance with GLP and safety standards
