Role summary
Vertex Pharmaceuticals seeks a Senior Scientist to lead process development and engineering studies for a cell-based diabetes therapeutic. What they're looking for
- BS in Biochemistry, Engineering, Biology or related field with 8+ years industry experience; or MS with 5+ years; or PhD with 2-5 years
- Minimum 1 year direct management or team leadership experience
- Hands-on experience designing and executing cell culture processes for biologics or cell therapy
- Proficiency in design of experiments and statistical data analysis
- Experience with cell processing equipment: bioreactors, Unifuge Mini, ATFs, Ambr250, or similar
- Pluripotent stem cell culture knowledge in 2D and/or 3D formats preferred
- Working knowledge of GMP requirements and regulatory documentation
What you'll be doing
- Design and execute process development experiments to establish robust manufacturing for cell therapy products
- Lead process robustness and characterization studies supporting clinical development and process understanding
- Lead and train weekend shift team of bioprocess associates and engineers on experimental execution
- Manage pluripotent stem cell culture, differentiation, and troubleshooting with complex technical problems
- Document procedures, perform statistical analysis, communicate progress, and escalate business-critical issues
