Role summary

Medtronic seeks a Principal Equipment Design Engineer to lead the design and development of manufacturing equipment, fixtures, tooling, and automation systems for medical device production. This role requires advanced mechanical design expertise, strong SolidWorks proficiency, and cross-functional leadership in a regulated environment.

  • Bachelor's degree with 7+ years relevant experience, or Master's with 5+ years, or PhD with 3+ years
  • Significant experience in machine design, automation, or capital equipment development
  • Advanced SolidWorks proficiency including complex assemblies and detailed mechanical drawings
  • Strong experience creating controlled engineering documentation in regulated environments
  • Knowledge of mechanical design principles, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with medical device manufacturing equipment design and validation preferred

What you'll be doing

  • Lead mechanical design and development of custom machines, automation systems, tooling, and fixtures
  • Create and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and bills of materials in SolidWorks
  • Support equipment qualification, validation, FAT, SAT, and post-installation performance investigations
  • Perform engineering analyses including tolerance stack-ups, failure analysis, and design for manufacturability
  • Mentor engineers and lead design reviews focused on robustness, manufacturability, and compliance
