Role summary
Merit Medical seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead design, development, and lifecycle management of advanced medical devices combining embedded electronics, imaging, and sensor technologies. The role requires expertise in hardware and software development, systems engineering, and cross-functional collaboration across the full product lifecycle from concept through regulatory approval and market support.
What they're looking for
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field with 15+ years experience, or Master's with 9+ years, or Ph.D. with 7+ years
- 3+ years dedicated medical device industry experience
- Proven track record designing product lines generating significant revenue and multiple patents
- Direct experience with IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-1-2 standards testing
- Proficiency with mixed-signal PCB design tools such as Altium Designer
- Strong embedded firmware and microcontroller development skills
- Knowledge of U.S. and international medical device standards and design controls
What you'll be doing
- Lead design, development, integration, and verification of complex medical device systems with electronics and sensors
- Design mixed-signal, multi-layer PCBs including analog, high-speed digital, RF, and power distribution circuits
- Develop embedded firmware and establish hardware-software integration for microcontroller-based devices
- Supervise engineering teams on various projects and provide technical direction to management
- Conduct patent reviews, generate intellectual property, and prepare engineering change notices and prototypes
