Role summary
Bristol Myers Squibb seeks an experienced patent attorney or agent to provide strategic intellectual property counsel and manage patent prosecution across multiple functional areas. The role supports innovation protection and business development activities at locations in Princeton, Cambridge, or San Diego.

- Registered to practice before the USPTO
- 7-10 years of patent law experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or pharmaceutical sciences
- J.D. degree preferred but not required
- Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Advanced degree and/or scientific research experience preferred
- Strong integrity and ability to assess business risk and communicate legal issues
What you'll be doing
- Prepare, draft, file, and prosecute patent applications globally, including managing office action responses
- Conduct freedom-to-operate analyses and provide strategic counsel on patentability and infringement matters
- Manage patent portfolios including landscape analyses and developing protection strategies for innovations
- Support business development due diligence by evaluating intellectual property portfolios of potential partners
- Draft and negotiate license and research collaboration agreements with external parties
