Role summary
Illumina seeks a Staff Bioinformatics Scientist to develop algorithms for detecting minimal residual disease in cancer samples using next-generation sequencing data. The role focuses on algorithm innovation, biomarker detection, and collaboration across internal and external teams within the oncology space.
What they're looking for
- PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics, mathematics, or related field with 3+ years industry experience
- Fluency in at least two of: statistics, common bioinformatics methods, NGS analysis, or oncology
- Proven track record developing bioinformatics NGS algorithms beyond existing tools
- Fluency in Python; C++ experience desired
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement
What you'll be doing
- Prototype novel NGS algorithms for clinical oncology applications including minimal residual disease detection
- Assess and improve existing secondary analysis algorithms for variant and biomarker detection
- Design and analyze experiments in collaboration with internal and external teams to support oncology assays
- Provide technical guidance to internal and external collaborators on algorithm development
- Participate in cross-functional R&D teams and communicate plans and results across functions
