Role summary
Becton Dickinson seeks a Senior Human Factors Engineer to integrate user-centered design and human factors principles into medical device development. - Bachelor's degree in Human Factors Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Design, Cognitive Science, Psychology, or related field
- Minimum 5 years professional experience in human factors engineering
- Minimum 5 years experience with medical devices (Class II or III)
- Proficiency in human factors research methods including usability testing and contextual inquiry
- Working knowledge of FDA guidance, IEC 62366, and ISO 14971 standards
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; ability to work independently and collaboratively
What you'll be doing
- Lead human factors engineering activities from concept generation through post-market surveillance
- Conduct user research including contextual inquiry, ethnographic studies, and usability testing
- Develop user profiles, task analyses, use scenarios, and use-related risk analyses
- Translate research findings into design recommendations and collaborate with R&D, Marketing, Regulatory, Quality, and Clinical Affairs teams
- Mentor junior human factors engineers and promote user-centered design culture
