Role summary

Merck seeks a Senior Scientist in the Infectious Disease and Vaccines department to design and execute experiments on antiviral treatments and HIV biology. Hands-on experience with rodent handling and small-animal procedures including injections and tissue collection
Demonstrated expertise in HIV biology, viral replication, virus-host interactions, and pathogenesis research
Proficiency in immunological and molecular techniques: cell culture, T-cell purifications, ELISA, flow cytometry, PCR
Knowledge of drug discovery, translational research, and animal pharmacology
Strong written and verbal communication skills with publication track record

What you'll be doing

Independently design and execute experiments interrogating fundamental virus biology and immunological responses
Conduct biochemical and cell-based assays and in vivo disease models to study virus-host interactions
Perform rigorous research on viral replication, innate and adaptive immunity, and HIV pathogenesis
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on antiviral drug discovery and development initiatives
Apply emerging technologies and novel analytical approaches to infectious disease research problems
