Role summary
Bio-Techne seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead development and support of analytical instruments for life sciences research. The role spans concept feasibility, new product development, manufacturing transition, and field support, reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Hardware Manager in San Jose.
What they're looking for
- Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering with 5-7 years industry experience, or Master's with 3-5 years
- Proven track record designing mechanisms and products from prototype through commercialization
- Strong tolerance stack analysis and complex systems problem-solving capabilities
- Expert-level proficiency with SolidWorks, PDM, and technical drawing standards (ASME)
- Deep knowledge of mechanical fundamentals and manufacturing processes (machining, molding, extrusion)
- Experience selecting motors, transmissions, and sensors for instrumentation
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
What you'll be doing
- Design and develop analytical instruments and accessories meeting all requirements and regulatory standards
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to iterate prototypes and deliver compliant designs
- Create engineering documentation including 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, and technical protocols
- Support manufacturing transition by developing equipment and processes for production
- Contribute to design reviews, vendor relationships, and problem-solving across project portfolio
