Role summary
Cepheid, a Danaher operating company, seeks an experienced Senior Automation Controls Engineer to design, develop, and support PLC-based automation and machine vision systems for high-volume manufacturing in Newark, California. - Bachelor's degree in relevant field with 5+ years experience, or Master's with 3+ years, or Doctoral degree
- Hands-on PLC and HMI programming with Rockwell RSLogix-5000 and FactoryTalk
- Cognex vision system expertise including In-Sight, VisionPro, and deep learning capabilities
- Industrial communication protocol knowledge: EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, IO-Link, OPC UA
- High-speed manufacturing equipment experience including Fanuc robots, VFDs, servo systems, motion control
- IEC 61131-3 PLC software standards development and implementation
- Software validation and equipment qualification with detailed technical documentation skills
What you'll be doing
- Design, program, test, and troubleshoot PLC control systems and HMI software for automated manufacturing equipment
- Implement and integrate vision inspection systems with Cognex and deep learning technologies
- Support system commissioning, equipment upgrades, and validation activities including IQ, OQ, PQ
- Participate in design reviews, electrical design code reviews, and cross-functional problem solving
- Execute work according to established controls, vision, and validation standards
