Role summary

Amgen seeks a Scientific Associate Director to lead safety pharmacology laboratory operations and provide expert guidance on nonclinical safety evaluation. The role combines lab management, project team oversight, and external scientific engagement within the Translational Safety & Risk Sciences department.

PhD in Pharmacology, Neuroscience, Physiology, Biomedical Sciences, or related field (preferred)
Broad experience in in vitro and in vivo safety pharmacology across cardiovascular, respiratory, and CNS domains
Working knowledge of cardiac ion channel assays and hiPSC-derived cardiomyocyte assays
Experience managing outsourced studies and CRO relationships
Demonstrated people leadership and laboratory management experience
Strong cross-functional communication and problem-solving skills

What you'll be doing

Oversee cardiac safety and electrophysiology laboratory operations, including ion channel and isolated heart assays
Manage exploratory and GLP-compliant studies including protocol development, data review, and report finalization
Supervise scientific staff, promote development, and ensure timely high-quality data generation and stakeholder communication
Serve as Safety Pharmacology SME on project teams, guiding study design and risk assessment across drug modalities
Build external collaborations and develop scientific eminence through publications and presentations on safety pharmacology advances
