Role summary
Amgen seeks a Senior Medical Data Scientist in Hyderabad to design and deploy data science solutions for Global Medical Affairs. The role combines advanced statistical methods, machine learning, and NLP to generate insights that inform medical strategy and patient outcomes, requiring hands-on technical expertise and mentorship capabilities.
What they're looking for
- PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or related field with 2+ years data analytics/science experience; OR Master's with 5+ years; OR Bachelor's with 7+ years
- Demonstrated hands-on expertise in statistical modeling, machine learning, advanced predictive modeling, and NLP with end-to-end solution delivery
- Advanced programming in SQL and Python; R preferred; comfort with Databricks or similar environments
- Strong storytelling and presentation skills; ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights
- Experience with hypothesis testing, regression analysis, clustering, and classification methods
- Life sciences or pharma background with proven data science application preferred
- Practical experience with LLMs, RAG architectures, MLflow, AWS, Git, and MLOps workflows preferred
What you'll be doing
- Design and build high-impact data science projects addressing complex medical questions using predictive modeling, NLP, machine learning, and causal inference
- Conduct end-to-end data science projects across structured and unstructured datasets using Python, R, SQL, Tableau, Power BI or similar platforms
- Partner with business stakeholders to define problem statements, set scope, and deliver medical data science projects including MSL engagement optimization and digital impact measurement
- Translate complex model outputs into clear presentations and reports for medical and cross-functional leadership teams
- Serve as technical subject matter expert in data science methodology and mentor peers on emerging technologies including Generative AI and LLMs
