Role summary
Merck seeks a Process Supervisor for the Modality Agnostic Chemistry Scaleup (MACS) facility in Rahway, New Jersey. This role involves leading shop floor operations, facility design, equipment commissioning, and GMP-compliant manufacturing of drug substances during facility construction and startup phases.
What they're looking for
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, materials science, or related discipline with 2+ years relevant experience; OR high school diploma with 6+ years experience
- Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with chemical process equipment and development
- Proven experience supervising operations teams in manufacturing or pilot plant environments
- Knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Good Documentation Practices, and Safety & Environmental regulations
- Experience operating and maintaining manufacturing, pilot, or lab-scale equipment
- Strong communication skills and collaborative approach to problem-solving and conflict resolution
- Flexibility to rotate between first and second shifts; adaptability in dynamic production settings
What you'll be doing
- Supervise daily production activities and assign work priorities to operations staff while maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards
- Contribute to equipment design, system commissioning, and facility qualification activities during construction and startup phases
- Implement process improvements and ensure facility readiness for active pharmaceutical ingredient processing
- Coordinate maintenance activities with production schedules to support reliable facility operations
- Collaborate with MACS leadership and cross-functional partners to drive facility performance and overall program success
