Role summary

Merck seeks a Senior Scientist for Biologics Process R&D to develop innovative manufacturing processes and technologies for biotherapeutics. The role involves upstream and/or downstream bioprocessing, experimental design, and cross-functional collaboration within the Research & Development Division.

Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
Knowledge of upstream bioprocessing: recombinant protein expression, bioreactor principles, cell culture
Knowledge of downstream bioprocessing: protein purification, chromatography, filtration, unit operations
Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities

What you'll be doing

Develop innovative technologies for next-generation biologic manufacturing processes
Design and conduct lab and pilot-scale studies to support process mechanistic understanding and scale-up
Apply rigorous scientific principles and data analysis to solve robust, cost-effective process challenges
Collaborate with cross-functional teams across research and manufacturing divisions
Train and mentor junior scientists in experimental design, execution, and data interpretation
