Role summary

Merck's Maurice R. Hilleman Center for Vaccine Manufacturing seeks an Associate Specialist to execute lab-scale vaccine process development, provide technical support for technology transfer, and conduct bioanalytical assays. The role supports multiple pipeline programs in a fast-paced cGMP environment at the Durham, NC facility.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or sciences with at least one year relevant experience
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with cell culture, particle isolation, lyophilization, or buffer/media preparation
  • Proficiency in bioanalytical assays such as potency testing, FTIR, or microscopy
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical abilities in technical environments
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to fast-paced, occasionally off-shift schedules

What you'll be doing

  • Execute lab-scale experiments in vaccine manufacturing areas including buffer preparation, cell culture, and product isolation
  • Perform bioanalytical assays on in-process and post-process samples and analyze particulate matter to support manufacturing investigations
  • Assist in designing and executing studies for process characterization, technology transfer, and qualification of bulk vaccine processes
  • Author experimental proposals, technical reports, and compile process data using statistical analysis tools
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on manufacturing teams to advance vaccine process development and continuous improvement projects
