Role summary

Merck seeks an Associate Director to lead agentic AI standards and context intelligence across the Human Health Division's GenAI Center of Excellence. This role owns enterprise standards, playbooks, and a shared context foundation for commercial AI agents, ensuring consistent governance and business reasoning at scale.

What they're looking for

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related STEM field
Experience defining and driving adoption of technical standards or frameworks in large, matrixed organizations
Hands-on understanding of GenAI agent lifecycle including RAG, tool use, orchestration, and evaluation
Experience with context engineering concepts for AI systems including grounding and semantic definitions
Ability to influence senior stakeholders across engineering, data, product, and governance functions
Experience in regulated industry with audit and compliance obligations (preferred)
Leadership experience with technical teams spanning standards and data/context disciplines (preferred)

What you'll be doing

Define and evolve playbooks, specifications, and standards across full agent lifecycle from design through operation
Own strategy for shared, governed context layer including ontology, knowledge graphs, and metric registries
Elevate context handling to measurable platform infrastructure with versioning, health metrics, and lifecycle controls
Drive socialization and adoption of standards across business and platform teams through enablement and starter kits
Establish metrics for standards adoption and context quality; lead continuous improvement feedback loops
