Role summary

This 12-week internship with Merck's Exploratory Vaccines-Regulated Bioanalytics group focuses on developing a multiplex antibody-dependent cellular phagocytosis assay for vaccine research. The intern will gain hands-on experience in immunology assay development, flow cytometry, and vaccine bioanalytics while supporting functional immunogenicity assessment.

  • Currently pursuing Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in immunology, microbiology, biological sciences, biotechnology, biomedical sciences, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related discipline
  • Basic laboratory experience in immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, or related fields
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or equivalent data analysis software
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with attention to detail
  • Effective verbal and written communication with ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Familiarity with aseptic laboratory practices and scientific documentation

What you'll be doing

  • Perform laboratory experiments to develop and optimize the multiplex ADCP assay platform
  • Prepare, characterize, and evaluate antigen-coated fluorescent bead reagents for assay feasibility
  • Conduct cell-based functional assays using THP-1 cells and vaccine study samples
  • Analyze experimental data using Excel and flow cytometry analysis software to compare assay performance
  • Present technical summaries and project findings at the end-of-summer intern symposium
