Role summary

Pacific Biosciences seeks a Staff Engineer to design and deploy compute platforms for sequencing instruments across on-premises, data center, and cloud environments. This role requires setting technical direction for deployment architecture, leading cross-functional teams, and delivering solutions that meet regulated customer requirements.

Production-level proficiency in Python and shell scripting for automation
Deep Linux expertise: boot chains, systemd, filesystems, packaging, kernel and driver integration
Experience designing and operating automated, reproducible image build pipelines
Software delivery experience under formal change control in regulated or high-consequence environments
Hands-on CI/CD expertise at scale: pipeline-as-code, containerized builds, agent fleet management, infrastructure-as-code

What you'll be doing

Design and implement cloud deployment models, including infrastructure-as-code and delivery pipelines for data analysis services
Consolidate build infrastructure onto a unified CI/CD platform with containerized, reproducible builds and dependency management
Own image architecture for instruments: composition, performance, driver integration, and hardware variant support
Establish supply-chain security capabilities: artifact signing, verified boot, SBOM generation, vulnerability management, and hardening baselines
Partner with Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Field Service to ensure auditable, predictable deployments and validated builds
