Role summary
Gilead Sciences seeks a materials science specialist to lead selection, qualification, and lifecycle management of raw materials and product-contact systems for biologics development and manufacturing. - PhD in materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry, or related discipline with 2+ years experience; or MS with 6+; or BS with 8+ years
- Experience supporting biologic drug substance or product development, technology transfer, or manufacturing in regulated environment
- Expertise with materials including process chemicals, excipients, chromatography resins, filters, single-use systems, polymers, or primary packaging
- Working knowledge of material characterization, specifications, risk assessment, change management, and GMP requirements
- Ability to lead complex technical work independently, manage multiple priorities, and communicate recommendations cross-functionally
- Advanced knowledge of single-use technologies, polymer science, extractables and leachables, or chemical compatibility preferred
What you'll be doing
- Lead selection, qualification, characterization, and lifecycle management of raw materials and product-contact systems for biologics
- Develop phase-appropriate material risk assessments, define specifications, testing strategies, and mitigation approaches
- Drive material qualification from need identification through supplier selection, GMP implementation, and lifecycle monitoring
- Lead extractables and leachables assessments, chemical compatibility evaluations, and supplier document reviews; author technical reports
- Plan and execute laboratory or external testing to characterize material variability and investigate manufacturing issues
