Role summary

Amgen seeks a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to architect and deploy enterprise-grade AI and generative-AI solutions across regulated environments. This senior individual-contributor role requires deep expertise in ML operations, LLM systems, and cloud platforms, with responsibility for defining technical standards, mentoring teams, and delivering production-ready AI solutions that balance performance, security and compliance.

What they're looking for

10-12+ years building production technology solutions with 3-5 years hands-on AI/ML experience
Mastery of ML algorithms: regression, tree-based ensembles, deep learning (CNNs, RNNs, transformers) and LLM/RAG techniques
Proficiency in Python and Java; Docker/Kubernetes; AWS, Azure or GCP cloud platforms
Expert knowledge of GenAI tools: vector databases, RAG pipelines, prompt engineering, LangChain or equivalent frameworks
Strong grasp of MLOps/DevOps stacks: Kubeflow, SageMaker Pipelines, GitHub Actions
Demonstrated ability to evaluate technical and business trade-offs and influence senior stakeholders
Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science or related field

What you'll be doing

Own enterprise AI/ML architecture, engineering standards, APIs and reusable patterns across cloud and on-premises environments
Build end-to-end production ML pipelines with automated feature engineering, training, evaluation and model promotion
Architect and deploy LLM/RAG solutions with safety guardrails, prompt management and optimized inference patterns
Establish observability, safe deployment practices (blue-green/canary), drift detection and automated retraining frameworks
Mentor engineers and data scientists; translate business needs into technical roadmaps and drive adoption in regulated settings
