Role summary

Pacific Biosciences seeks a Principal Electrical Systems Engineer to lead electrical architecture and design of advanced DNA sequencing instruments. Hands-on experience with communication protocols including USB, CAN, or EtherCAT in electronic systems

Strong laboratory skills with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and electrical test equipment
Excellent cross-functional communication and ability to lead technical discussions across engineering teams
Current authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship

What you'll be doing

Create and maintain system-level electronic block diagrams for sequencing instruments
Design and validate cables, harnesses, and connectors including signal integrity and grounding requirements
Design, prototype, and debug mixed-signal PCBs with embedded processors, FPGAs, power electronics, and sensor interfaces
Collaborate with firmware, software, mechanical, optical, and manufacturing teams to define interfaces and integrate subsystems
Lead system troubleshooting and implement design improvements to enhance reliability and manufacturability
