Role summary

PTC Therapeutics seeks a Patient Support Specialist to provide comprehensive case management and patient education for rare disease patients, primarily those with PKU. The role coordinates therapy initiation, addresses adherence barriers, supports life-stage transitions, and serves as a clinical resource to the patient services team.

What they're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years clinical nutrition, nursing, or patient counseling experience
  • Active dietitian or nursing license; Master's degree preferred
  • Expertise in metabolic or pediatric dietetics with real-world, life-stage application
  • Demonstrated proficiency in motivational interviewing, patient coaching, and behavior change support
  • Experience with PKU and inherited metabolic disorders across pediatric and adult populations
  • Strong patient education, documentation, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with EMR/CRM systems preferred

What you'll be doing

  • Educate patients and caregivers on disease state, medication safety, administration, and storage via phone, video, and approved channels
  • Coordinate therapy initiation and ongoing support with Sales, Patient Engagement, and Case Manager teams to ensure seamless patient experience
  • Identify and address adherence barriers including diet fatigue, psychosocial factors, and access challenges through individualized coaching
  • Support critical life transitions such as adolescent independence and transition to adult care teams
  • Serve as PKU subject matter expert for Patient Services staff, answer clinical questions, and develop PKU-specific workflows and education tools
