Role summary

IQVIA seeks a Senior COA Scientist to lead the scientific interpretation, documentation, and governance of Clinical Outcome Assessment scoring algorithms. The role bridges source documentation and cross-functional teams to ensure scoring methodologies are clinically valid, accurately implemented, and aligned with validated instrument standards.

What they're looking for

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MSc, MPH, PharmD) in outcomes research, psychometrics, psychology, epidemiology, or related discipline
  • Minimum 7 years experience in COA science, outcomes research, psychometrics, or instrument development within pharma, CRO, or healthcare research
  • Deep knowledge of COA concepts including scoring structures, recall periods, missing-data rules, and fit-for-purpose clinical research use
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying complex scoring methodologies beyond simple sum or average approaches
  • Proven ability to translate scientific source materials into structured specifications and implementation guidance
  • Experience supporting regulated or audit-sensitive clinical research workflows
  • Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills with excellent written English

What you'll be doing

  • Provide scientific leadership in COA evaluation and implementation, ensuring outputs are scientifically robust and fit for clinical research
  • Interpret scoring manuals, documentation, and publications to define valid, implementation-ready scoring requirements and handling rules
  • Identify and resolve ambiguities in scoring methodology through scientific judgment or escalation to senior subject-matter experts
  • Partner with statisticians, programmers, and engineering teams to translate scientific requirements into validated scoring implementations
  • Develop standardized templates, standard operating procedures, and reusable scientific assets to improve consistency and scalability of scoring operations
