Role summary
Amgen seeks a manufacturing manager to lead upstream bulk drug substance operations at a new North Carolina facility. The role involves frontline leadership of cell culture teams through startup and operational phases, with initial daytime hours transitioning to 12-hour shifts as manufacturing operations commence. This position supports facility expansion, technology transfer, and production scale-up in a state-of-the-art biotech manufacturing environment.
What they're looking for
- Doctorate degree, or Master's with 3 years manufacturing/operations experience, or Bachelor's with 5 years experience, or equivalent
- Demonstrated managerial experience directly managing people or leading teams and projects
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or Engineering preferred
- Upstream biologics or drug substance manufacturing experience
- cGMP manufacturing experience, 5+ years preferred
- Facility startup, commissioning, or operational readiness experience
- Technology transfer and process implementation experience
What you'll be doing
- Lead, develop, and coach manufacturing team; establish performance expectations and accountability culture
- Support design, build, commissioning, qualification, staffing, and training for new manufacturing facility
- Ensure safe, cGMP-compliant operations; drive performance on safety, quality, schedule, and cost metrics
- Partner across Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, and leadership to enable facility startup and ramp-up
- Identify and drive efficiency, reliability, and scalability improvements as operations mature
