Role summary
Vertex Pharmaceuticals seeks a Director of Global Trade Compliance to lead the development and execution of trade compliance processes, systems, and regulatory activities across pharmaceutical supply chains. This role oversees customs operations, export controls, and duty optimization strategies while managing a global team and partnering with cross-functional stakeholders.

- Bachelor's degree in International Trade, Business, Supply Chain, or related field; advanced degree preferred
- 15+ years progressive experience in global trade compliance within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences organizations
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing teams in complex global environments
- Advanced knowledge of U.S., EU, and UK trade compliance and export control regulations
- Deep understanding of pharmaceutical supply chains including manufacturing, distribution, and clinical materials
- Experience with global trade management systems and digital platforms for process automation
- Strong strategic, analytical, and problem-solving skills with excellent executive communication abilities
What you'll be doing
- Lead Global Trade Compliance team in designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable trade compliance processes and systems
- Oversee customs declarations, tariff classification, country of origin determinations, and export control activities
- Develop and deploy duty optimization strategies including drawback programs, free-trade agreements, and tariff monitoring
- Drive global trade compliance strategy in partnership with Supply Chain, Legal, Finance, Regulatory, and other stakeholders
- Monitor regulatory developments and trade legislation to identify impacts on Vertex operations
