Role summary

Merck's Biologics Process Research & Development group seeks an Associate Scientist to design and develop robust manufacturing processes for clinical and commercial biotherapeutics. The role combines early- and late-stage process development with opportunities to contribute to next-generation biomanufacturing technologies.

BS degree in Chemical, Biochemical, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related field
Understanding of engineering principles for recombinant protein production unit operations
Knowledge of aseptic technique, protein biophysical properties, and protein laboratory practices
Strong passion for integrating science and innovation into biologics process development
Experience with molecular biology, protein expression, mammalian cell culture, or protein purification preferred
Familiarity with statistical analysis tools such as design of experiments and multivariate data analysis preferred

What you'll be doing

Design and conduct experiments for individual unit operations using operational parameters and analytical inputs
Develop and characterize robust clinical processes capable of delivering multi-kilogram quantities of drug substance
Integrate unit operations with process control and monitoring platforms for concurrent operations
Conduct laboratory-scale and pilot-scale studies to support scale-up and technology transfer
Collaborate across process development, analytics, and manufacturing teams to advance the biologics pipeline
