Role summary
Merck seeks an Associate Principal Scientist to provide operational and scientific leadership for early-phase clinical trials and vaccine programs. This role designs and executes clinical pharmacology strategies, manages cross-functional teams, ensures regulatory compliance, and authors clinical documents to advance novel therapeutics from proof-of-concept through development.
What they're looking for
- Bachelor's degree in life sciences with ≥11 years related experience, or Master's with ≥8 years, or PhD/doctorate with ≥3 years
- At least 6 years Phase 1 clinical trial experience or 8+ years Phase 2-3 clinical trial experience
- Experience developing, implementing, and managing vaccine clinical programs and trials
- Strong proficiency in medical/safety writing and clinical reporting
- Working knowledge of GCP, ICH guidelines, and regulatory requirements
- Demonstrated excellence in complex project management and cross-functional collaboration
- Ability to mentor junior staff and lead process improvement initiatives
What you'll be doing
- Design, plan, and execute early-phase clinical trials with oversight of safety assessment and risk management
- Author clinical protocols, investigator brochures, study reports, and regulatory submissions
- Lead cross-functional teams through study planning, execution, and governance meetings
- Review clinical trial data, participate in site monitoring, and identify/mitigate study conduct issues
- Develop departmental standard operating procedures and mentor junior team members
