Role summary
Merck's Neuroscience team seeks a co-op student for a 6-month research position in CNS drug discovery. The role involves designing and executing in vitro and in vivo experiments to support identification and validation of novel neurological drug targets.
What they're looking for
- Currently enrolled in BS/BA/MA/PhD in biological sciences, biology, chemistry, pharmacy, or related field
- Completed at least two years toward degree by June 2026
- Available full-time for 6 months starting early to mid-2027
- Theoretical knowledge of at least two areas: molecular biology, biochemistry, cell culture, neuroscience, pharmacology, microscopy, or electrophysiology
- Hands-on lab experience with techniques such as Western blot, ELISA, PCR, cell culture, or calcium imaging
- Strong data collection, analysis, and presentation abilities
- Demonstrated interest in neuroscience drug discovery and multidisciplinary collaboration
What you'll be doing
- Design, execute, interpret and report results from in vitro and/or in vivo experiments
- Develop, troubleshoot and execute new assays, protocols and imaging methods for neuroscience research
- Establish cell-based model systems and perform biochemical and immunohistochemical tissue analysis
- Communicate experimental data clearly to teams and stakeholders
- Collaborate with colleagues in medicinal chemistry, pharmacology and genetics to support target validation
