Role summary
Merck's Future Talent Program offers an 11-12 week summer internship in biocatalysis within the Small Molecule Process Research & Development Division. Interns will conduct laboratory research on enzyme engineering, microfluidics, fermentation, and biocatalytic transformations to support drug discovery and development.
What they're looking for
- Currently enrolled sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or Material Science
- Completed at least two years toward a bachelor's degree by June 2027
- Available for full-time work for 11-12 weeks starting May or June 2027
- Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Laboratory experience with organic synthesis, purification, and analytical techniques
- Familiarity with HPLC, NMR, mass spectrometry, or biochemical assays
- Interest in enzymology, protein design, or high-throughput screening
What you'll be doing
- Design and execute experiments in biocatalysis, enzyme engineering, and fermentation
- Contribute to development of novel enzymatic transformations and protein engineering approaches
- Maintain accurate electronic laboratory notebook records and follow safe laboratory practices
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to research discussions
- Present research results in oral and written formats
